Berlez is now the home to our wedding photography services.

Aspen Ave is niching down into just wedding videography. 

Why? To keep the doors open for collaboration and creative expression.

If you were referred to Aspen Ave for photography, the same team is offering those services at Berlez. And if you need a videographer but want to hire a different photographer, Aspen Ave is right down the street. Need both? We can blend the two services just like we always have.

A true namesake for us

Berlez is a long-awaited combination of our own last names. It’s a literal combination of Michael’s last name, Gonzalez, and Nicole’s last name, Bertic. Even more importantly, though, it’s a name that blends two personal histories and backgrounds — representing the same personalized flair we carefully curate in our work.

So, what’s changing?

And no, we’re not getting divorced. We’re fine and the cats are still here.

For a long time now, we’ve offered in-house photography and videography services for weddings. We loved providing couples with a broad, seamless depiction of their wedding (and still do), but we’ve realized that we needed more space for creative expression and collaboration.

To provide the room to be known for something, to focus (more often than not) on a singular service.

This name can travel far, a new identity to experiment with and we cannot wait to let it dance across the globe.

And with the addition of film photography, we want to invest in the art of the coverage itself – carefully loading the film and following an even-keeled pace with each shot. Same thing with videography — Super 8 is its own ballgame and we want to hit a home run every time.

What to expect from Aspen Ave

Wedding videography in Chicago and beyond, but best described as the videographers for photographers because we know the name of the game — mindful of the coverage, wide shots and get-out-of-your-way needs for photography. 

We will step in seamlessly at the side of photographers, making you look better while we both take better footage that prioritizes the couple and the planner’s vision.

Andddd even better, we’re breaking the status quo. Photographers and videographers don’t always love working together because they tend to compete for the same “shot.” But we live in both worlds and won’t miss a beat.

Plus if you need a few drone images, just ask — we’ve usually got the drone included with video services.

What to expect (er, crave) from Berlez

Wedding photography for a handful of events each year. Think iconic, life of the party and with film photography too. The same images you’ve seen in Good Morning America, British Vogue, and other publications.

All from a team that treats other vendors equally. 

More about the history

Whether you’re new here or been with us since the jump, Berlez is the next natural addition to the Aspen Ave family. It feels like this is where we were meant to go, starting on the road from “Michael’s Moments,” the charmingly small company Michael first began before we got married (more on that here).

In short, there is simply a volume II of the same collection, a new space for us to broaden the horizon of what we know and love.
